The Lucerne Festival Academy’s Contemporary-Conducting Program is aimed at young, aspiring professional conductors, serving as a platform for a future conducting career. Lucerne Festival believes in the importance of contemporary music for the development of young conductors. That’s why the three-week-long development program (under the supervision of course director Baldur Brönnimann) has a special focus on the music of the 20th and 21st century.
On 30 August 2023, Program participants Michelle Di Russo and Joseph Sieber took part in a one-on-one Masterclass with world-renowned conductor Susanna Mälkki. Together with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (LFCO) they worked on Igor Stravinsky’s “Le Sacre du printemps”.
