The Matthäuskirche (St. Matthew’s Church) was the first Protestant church in Central Switzerland. It was built in 1860-1861 in neo-Gothic style according to plans designed by Ferdinand Stadler. Richard Wagner married Cosima von Bülow here on 25 August 1870 (his second marriage).
The Matthäuskirche, which is also known as City Church, is located in the Old Town, on the corner of Hertensteinstrasse/Seehofstrasse, behind the Hotel Schweizerhof.
