The German-British soprano Sarah Wegener initially studied double bass before deciding to pursue a career as a singer. She graduated from Bernhard Jaeger-Böhm’s class at the Stuttgart Academy of Music and took classes with Dame Gwyneth Jones and Renée Morloc. Wegener performs a broad repertoire ranging from Purcell and Handel to Classical, Romantic, and contemporary works. Known for her intensive collaboration with Georg Friedrich Haas, she has premiered several of his scores. She has performed at the Royal Opera House London, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Wiener Festwochen, and the Salzburg Festival, as well as at the Schleswig-Holstein and Rheingau festivals. Wegener sings on recomposed, a recording of arrangements by Bernd Alois Zimmermann that received the German Record Critics’ Award, the Choc de Classica, and the Diapason d’or. She will start teaching at the Zurich University of Music in the fall of 2024.
