Born in Fribourg, Switzerland, Marie-Claude Chappuis studied singing in her hometown and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, taking up her first engagement at the Tiroler Landestheater in Innsbruck. Highlights of her career include performances as Idamante in Mozart’s Idomeneo, which she performed under Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Zurich and Graz; in Paisiello’s Il matrimonio inaspettato under Riccardo Muti at the Salzburg Festival; and as Marguerite in Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust under Sir Roger Norrington in Leipzig. She also works regularly with Daniel Harding, Emmanuelle Haïm, René Jacobs, Zubin Mehta, and Christophe Rousset. Guest performances have taken her to La Scala Milan, the Staatsoper Berlin, the Theater an der Wien, and the Teatro Real in Madrid. A sought-after concert singer, Marie-Claude Chappuis also devotes herself to the Baroque repertoire and has released a recording of Swiss folk songs.
