Mariano Chiacchiarini

Born in 1982, Mariano Chiacchiarini studied orchestral and choral conducting at the Universidad Católica Argentina in his native Buenos Aires and completed his conducting studies with distinction under Michael Luig at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. He has been awarded numerous scholarships and in 2008 won first prize in the Martini Conducting Competition of the Teatro Colón, among others. He has led the Cologne-based Ensemble Garage since 2009 and the Orchestra '91 in Hamburg since 2011. He has also served as music director of the University of Trier since 2010 and has been a regular guest conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional Argentina since 2014. Master classes and assistantships have led him to such conductors as Pierre Boulez, Peter Eötvös, Iván Fischer, Bernard Haitink, Riccardo Muti, Sir Simon Rattle, and David Zinman. Chiacchiarini has worked with such renowned orchestras as the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Russian State Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, the WDR Sinfonieorchester, and the Ensemble Modern. He has performed at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Young Euro Classics, the “Ultraschall” Festival in Berlin, the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Teatro Colón, and the Opéra national de Paris. He has also appeared at Lucerne Festival on several occasions, conducting the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra in Lucerne as well as in guest performances in Switzerland and Germany, such as with Andreas Schaerer’s project The Big Wig, which was also released on CD in 2017. Mariano Chiacchiarini has been awarded the Echo Music Prize, the German Record Critics’ Prize, and the Premio Konex. He is a member of the advisory board of the German Music Council and was selected by soprano Barbara Hannigan for her initiative MOMENTUM: our future, now.
