Julia Becker began taking violin lessons from her father and became a junior student with Igor Ozim in Cologne in 1985. At the same time, she was a member of the European Community Youth Orchestra (ECYO) under the direction of Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. After graduating from high school, she joined Ozim’s class at the Cologne Conservatory in 1987 and took chamber music courses with the Amadeus Quartet. She completed her training with Rainer Kussmaul in Freiburg and received her soloist degree under Nora Chastain in Winterthur. Becker was First Coordinated Concertmaster at the Staats-
theater Darmstadt from 1993 to 1995, and since 1995 she has been First Concertmaster with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, appearing regularly as a soloist and chamber musician. From 1996 to 2000, she also played in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. Julia Becker has been a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra since 2019.
