The tenor Edgardo Rocha is a native of Rivera, Uruguay. Having studied piano and orchestral conducting in Montevideo, he moved to Italy in 2008 and completed his vocal training with Salvatore Fisichella; he also took masterclasses with Rockwell Blake and Alessandro Corbelli. Rocha made his stage debut in 2010 in the title role of Donizetti’s Gianni di Parigi in Martina Franca. He was soon invited to the Vienna, Bavarian, and Saxon Staatsoper companies, the Opéra national de Paris, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, especially as a performer of the bel canto repertoire. He has performed at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival alongside Cecilia Bartoli in Rossini’s Otello, La donna del lago, and L’italiana in Algeri. In the 2018-19 season, he will appear in Rossini’s Semiramide at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, in L’italiana in Algeri at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and in Il turco in Italia at Zurich Opera.
