Vita

A native of Berlin, baritone Dietrich Henschel received his training at the Munich Academy of Music and in master classes led by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. In 1997 he began his international career as Henze’s Prince von Homburg in Berlin and as Busoni’s Doctor Faust in Lyon. Since then he has performed at the opera houses of Paris, Munich, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Zurich, as well as at the Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence, and Bregenz festivals. His repertoire ranges from Monteverdi through Mozart and Wagner to contemporary works by Unsuk Chin, Peter Ruzicka, Manfred Trojahn, and Detlev Glanert. Henschel, who is also a passionate singer of lieder, has collaborated with John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Philippe Herreweghe, Kent Nagano, Simon Rattle, and Christian Thielemann. For some time he has also appeared as a conductor, and he regularly concertizes with the Sinfonietta Leipzig.
