Clemens Hagen comes from a family of musicians in Salzburg. He began his cello studies at the Mozarteum at the age of eight and later transferred to the Musikhochschule Basel, where he continued his studies with Heinrich Schiff. Clemens Hagen has performed as a soloist with the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, the Royal Concertgebouw and Cleveland Orchestras, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the NHK Symphony Orchestra. He enjoyed a close collaboration with Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. As a member of the Hagen Quartet, he has performed throughout the world for over 40 years and has recorded more than 45 CDs. Martha Argerich, Renaud Capuçon, Leonidas Kavakos, Evgeny Kissin, Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff, and Yuja Wang are also among his partners on the concert stage. Clemens Hagen is a founding member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, with which he has been performing here since 2003.
