The Swiss mezzo-soprano Claude Eichenberger studied with Elisabeth Glauser at the Bern University of the Arts, where she received her solo diploma with distinction and the Eduard Tschumi Prize in 2003. She has been a member of the Bühnen Bern ensemble since 2007 and has sung the great mezzo roles of Strauss and Wagner, as well as Bizet’s Carmen, the Sextoness in Janáček’s Jenůfa, and Judith in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle. Eichenberger has made guest appearances at the Cantiere in Montepulciano, the Berlin Staatsoper, Frankfurt Opera, the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, and the National Opera in Amsterdam. In 2023, she made her debut under Kent Nagano at the Hamburg Staatsoper as Venus in Wagner’s Tannhäuser. In the concert hall, she focuses intensively on Gustav Mahler. She is artistic co-director of the “Das Lied – Liedrezitale Bern” series and teaches singing at the Bern University of the Arts. She was awarded the Canton of Bern Music Prize in 2022.
