The Swedish soprano Christina Nilsson studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and began her career in 2016-17 as the winner of the Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition and the Wilhelm Stenhammar Competition. Shortly afterwards, she enjoyed great success at the Royal Opera in Stockholm as Verdi’s Aida; in recent seasons, she has also appeared there as the Countess in Mozart’s Figaro, as Puccini’s Tosca, and as Strauss’s Ariadne and Chrysothemis in Elektra. Guest appearances have taken Nilsson to Frankfurt Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, London’s Royal Opera House, and the Bavarian Staatsoper, where she sang Rosalinde in a new production of Die Fledermaus. In the summer of 2024, she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival as Freia in Das Rheingold and the Third Norn in Götterdämmerung. She will make her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in her signature role when she appears as Aida in March 2025.
