Born in Überlingen on Lake Constance in 1982, the bass Patrick Zielke studied with Dunja Vejzovic in Stuttgart and attended masterclasses with Francisco Araiza, Rudolf Piernay, and Harald Stamm. In 2012, he was a prize winner at the Ernst Haefliger Competition and Richard Wagner Competition. Following his early years at the Luzerner Theater, he moved to Theater Bremen in 2013 and to Mannheim’s National Theater in 2017. He has also made guest appearances at the Stuttgart Staatsoper, Theater Basel, and Oper Frankfurt. Zielke’s repertoire includes the major bass roles of Wagner, as well as such Italian roles as Filippo II in Verdi’s Don Carlo and operas by Prokofiev and Shostakovich. He was awarded the Faust Prize in 2020 for his portrayal of Ochs auf Lerchenau (Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier). In the 2024-25 season, Zielke will appear at the Staatsoper Berlin as Sarastro in Mozart’s The Magic Flute and as Bartolo in Figaro.
