Strebi Stiftung Luzern - Partner «Debut»-Reihe
That’s what you call love at first sight: Theo Plath was five years old when he visited an open house for a music school with his family and discovered the bassoon for himself. He received his first lessons while still in kindergarten, developed quickly, began his studies at the Munich Academy of Music at the age of fifteen, and launched his career as a soloist the following year. Naturally, he also won prizes in numerous competitions, such as the German Music Competition, the International ARD Music Competition and, with his Monet Wind Quintet, the Concours International du Chambre de Lyon. Theo Plath is today regarded as one of the finest bassoonists in the world. He will demonstrate why during his Lucerne debut. In addition to works by Heinz Holliger, Edward Elgar, and Daniel Schnyder showcasing his instrument, he will introduce his own arrangement of Debussy’s Violin Sonata. And since Plath is also a talented communicator who is involved in the “Rhapsody in School” project for young people and education, he will comment on individual pieces himself. Want to bet that you will also end up wanting to play the bassoon afterwards?
